If you are curious about how things look from a different perspective, you gain valuable knowledge about how to really see – and feel gratitude about your surroundings.
Arctic retreat is founded by photographer and journalist Lisa Rypeng and husband Mikal Tønsaas. Over the past years we have developed Galleri Bjørkly, a place of inspiration and retreat in the middle of Lofoten islands. We also have our special place Strandheim at Ringvassøya, embraced by rich wildlife and breathtaking nature. We have plans for these places, so stay tuned:)

Hi , I´m Lisa, a Tromsø-based journalist and photographer, born and raised in Lofoten.
I have worked as a photographer and journalist in different media for several years. I have a strong passion for The north and the challenges facing the Arctic communities. I also have a passion for preserving my family history through photography, and inspiring photographers around the world through mindful photography. I believe in the healing and strenghtening power of nature and photography. Read more about my journey here.

In 2025 we offer accomodation, and several inspiring photo tours and photo retreats and workshops in Lofoten and Tromsø. Private workshops can also be arranged at request.
